29-year-old sentenced on child porn charges

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A 29-year-old Aiken man has been sentenced in federal court Tuesday on possession of child pornography charges, U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald announced.

Troy Darryl Spence, 29, of Jackson, SC, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Margaret Seymour. After serving his sentence, officials advise Spence will be supervised by federal probation officers for the remainder of his life. Spence will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Officials say Spence admitted to using computers to access and download child pornography from the internet. He received an increased sentence under federal sentencing guidelines, after being prosecuted for taking "indecent liberties" with a 9-year-old girl in 2003.

The case was investigated by agents of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  Assistant United States Attorney Dean A. Eichelberger of the Columbia office handled the case.
