Deputies: Georgetown man murdered mother with sword

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Georgetown County deputies arrested a man wanted for the murder of his mother early Monday morning.

Deputies arrested Jonathan Maurice White, 29, of Georgetown shortly after the alleged murder during a routine traffic stop shortly after midnight Monday. Deputies said White killed his mother, 51-year-old Laura Ferrante.

The incident beagan about midnight Sunday with and argument between White and Ferrante, said the report from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office. The verbal altercation became physical -- and then deadly -- when White allegedly cut his mother multiple times with a sword.

Ferrante's body was found in her Prior Drive home.

According to the incident report, deputies responded to the Browns Ferry neighborhood of Georgetown after receiving reports of a murder. While en route to the scene, they learned the suspect was spotted heading away from the scene of the in a white Ford Taurus.

He was apprehended by deputies about a mile outside of Georgetown on US Highway 17.

White was transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center and was formally charged with murder Monday afternoon.

White lived at the home on Prior Drive with his mother. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
