Benjamin picks up support from group of police, firefighters

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A group of Columbia firefighters and police officers are throwing their support behind attorney Steve Benjamin for mayor.

Benjamin says the most basic function of city government is to keep the people who live there safe. He says he would like to restore some of the money cut from firefighters and law enforcement.

"Though many candidates understand the seriousness of public safety, Mr. Benjamin was the only one who attacked the issues with the sense of urgency it deserves," said Travis Carricato from the Columbia Firefighters Association.

Also in the race, attorney Steve Morrison, city councilman Kirkman Finlay, businessman Joe Azar, businessman Aaron Johnson, Sparkle Clark, Nammu Muhammad, Gary Myers and Irwin Wilson.
