Driver kills St. Stephens pedestrian

The driver of a mustang struck and killed a pedestrian on US-52 near St. Stephens on Thursday night.

Stephen Jackson was driving his Ford Mustang along Highway 52 near Rootbrand Road when he struck 19-year-old Krissy Gallard at 8 p.m. Gallard, who is from St. Stephens, was crossing the road when she was hit.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury said Gallard was pronounced dead on the scene. The death was ruled an accident and the cause of death was body trauma, according to officials.

The Berkeley County Coronor's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

Jackson, who is from Missouri, did not sustain any injuries.
