COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Players from two basketball teams were called to the South Carolina High School League office after both sides were involved in a brawl following a playoff game.
The players from Southside and Abbeville arrived on Friday afternoon for a lecture on sportsmanship from former South Carolina State football coach Willie Jeffries.
The fight broke out as players shook hands Wednesday night following Southside's 61-55 victory over Abbeville in the Class 2A playoffs. Video of the incident shows that people from the stands also participated in the fight.
Abbeville principal Steve Glenn said 8 of his players have been suspended from school for five days. There was no information on discipline for Southside, which faces Keenan on Saturday for a spot in the state championship.
