COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina schools chief Jim Rex plans to tell legislators how proposed budget cuts would affect children's education.
Rex will make a presentation to a Senate Finance panel on Wednesday.
A House proposal on the budget that starts July 1 cuts funding for public, kindergarten- through 12th-grade schools an additional 6 percent. That returns state spending on basic classroom costs to 1995 levels.
Plans include furloughing teachers and administrators, scrapping incentive pay for teachers earning national certification, and eliminating some end-of-year standardized testing.
