CofC student on spring break dies in car crash

FORT MILL, SC - FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - A Fort Mill teen who was home for Spring Break was killed in a single-vehicle crash in York County early Sunday morning.

The wreck occurred at 2:38 a.m. near the intersection of Springfield Parkway and Gold Hill Road.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 18-year-old Dakota Quinton.

Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson said Quinton was driving a Ford Mustang east on Springfield Parkway.

When Quinton entered a curve, he lost control, drove off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole and several trees before overturning, Robinson said.

Quinton was transported to Piedmont Medical Center and where he died a short time later.

The speed limit for this area is 55 mph the highway patrol said.

According to Quinton's Facebook page, he graduated from Nation Ford High School in 2009 and was attending the College of Charleston and was planning to graduate in 2013.
