DA: NY CFO charged with stealing from company

MINEOLA, NY - MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Rockville Centre man has been charged with stealing $429,000 from the company where he worked as a chief financial officer.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said Monday that 54-year-old Christopher Cortese was charged with grand larceny. He's accused of using the money on trips, car payments and two girlfriends he "hired" as consultants.

Cortese had worked as a CFO since May, 2005 for South Carolina-based Kainos Partners Holding Company, which owns and operates Dunkin' Donuts franchises. Kainos began investigating him in January 2009; he was fired the following month.

Cortese's lawyer said he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and was released on his own recognizance.

Cortese is due back in court April 6. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
