Westminster man sentenced for torching Clemson mail truck

ANDERSON, SC - ANDERSON, SC (WCSC) - A Westminster man was sentenced to a five year prison sentence Thursday for his part in destroying a mail truck.

According to the US Attorney's office, 25-year-old Timothy Turner stole a parked postal van in June, 2009 on the Clemson University campus. At the time, the van contained more than 30 tubs of mail destined for the university area.

Turner ransacked the truck and, once finished, drove it to a rural area in Oconee County and set it on fire. The van and its contents were destroyed.

Senior United States District Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr., sentenced Turner to five years in federal prison.  He will also have to serve a three year period of supervised release after imprisonment.
