CHARLESTON, S. C. (AP) - It might appear made for a reality show. But a competition this weekend at a South Carolina military college is real.
The 14th annual Bulldog Challenge is being held Saturday at The Citadel. The event pits military, civilian and college teams against one another in an exhausting 6-mile endurance contest.
Participants will run a Marine obstacle course, a stadium climb and do pull-ups, among other challenges. But if that's not enough, each four-person team must run the course carrying three 20-pound sandbags.
The event is sponsored by the Citadel's Simper Fidel is Society to raise money for scholarships and leadership funds in the names of those who have died fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
