SULLIVANS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A weekend program at the Fort Moultrie Visitors Center on the South Carolina coast focuses on women and war during the Civil War in Charleston.
The Saturday program at the fort on Sullivans Island is entitled War and Wardrobe. It features photos and sketches of women's clothing during the war and includes excerpts from letters and diaries written by the women of Charleston.
The program will trace the lives of women during the secession era, the firing on Fort Sumter and the later siege of Charleston by Union forces.
The war began in April 1861 with the bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.
