COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The frolicking is over and the football begins again for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks return to the practice fields for their second workout of the spring. South Carolina was originally scheduled to open spring practice on Tuesday. However, coach Steve Spurrier didn't want his younger players to go home for spring break without getting a look at them in action and he began drills on March 4.
Spurrier is hopeful to find a backup quarterback to starter Stephen Garcia. South Carolina also hopes to gain some experience and improve on the offensive line, where coach Shawn Elliott has taken over for last year's assistant, Eric Wolford.
