2 suspects arrested following SWAT shooting standoff

HORRY COUNTY, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Members of the Horry County SWAT Team have taken into custody two people they believe to be connected to an afternoon shooting in Socastee that sent one person to the hospital.

Sgt. Rober Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, says officers received a call from a local hospital regarding a shooting victim just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Less than three hours after the initial report, Kegler said officers cornered a person of interest inside of an apartment building at the Villas at Palmetto Point. SWAT agents attempted to make contact with the suspect through a phone line, but were unsuccessful until 8:30 p.m. when two people were taken into custody.

Officers are continuing to actively search for a crime scene in the complex, in addition to the Ivystone subdivision off of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard. Kegler says the victim, whose identity has yet to be released, is suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The Horry County police Department's Specialized Emergency Response Team assisted SWAT agents in the standoff.

No charges have been filed against either of the two suspects taken into custody.
