Mother pleads guilty to helping son avoid law enforcement

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A Westminster woman pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to concealing a fugitive.

Sherry Johnson Jenkins, 49, appeared before a federal judge in Spartanburg because she allegedly helped her son, a fugitive, remain at large. According to prosecutors, Jenkins knew her son, John Babb, was hiding out in Kentucky and tried to send him a driver's license she took from a coworker and some cash.

Federal agents intercepted that package and were able to locate and arrest Babb.

Babb was later sentenced to 33 months in a federal prison for bank fraud.

Jenkins could receive a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for five years, if she in convicted.
