COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A new exhibit at the South Carolina State Museum looks at some of the myths and truths of pirates throughout history.
"Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers" opened Saturday and runs through Sept. 19.
The exhibit looks at South Carolina's close ties to scores of pirates including 1 of the few women buccaneers.
Anne Bonny lived with her father in South Carolina before she married. She later ran away with a pirate and avoided the hangman's noose upon her capture by revealing she was pregnant.
Museum curator Fritz Hamer say the exhibit includes information on modern-day pirates still operating off the coast of Africa.
