SC Highway Patrol trooper suspended after fight

GREENVILLE, SC - GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been suspended without pay as authorities investigate a fight outside a Greenville bar.

32-year-old Michael W. Melton Jr. of Bradley has been ticketed for disorderly conduct.

The Public Safety Department says Melton has been a trooper since 2004 and worked in the district based in Greenwood.

A Greenville police officer wrote in an incident report that a man told officers that he and others had been drinking around midnight Saturday and he was ready to leave but his wife wasn't. The officer wrote the man became involved in a physical confrontation with 1 of his wife's friends.

There was no telephone listing for Melton.
