South Carolina loses character coach

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Jack Easterby will no longer be with the South Carolina men's basketball team.

Easterby was the team's Fellowship of Christian Athletes representative and was referred to as the Gamecocks' character coach. He joined the program under former coach Dave Odom five seasons ago and was kept on when Darrin Horn took over after the 2007-08 season.

Horn released a statement through spokeswoman Emily Feeney that the team was no longer using the services of FCA.

Easterby worked with players off the court and held Bible study meetings for those interested.

Easterby sat on the Gamecocks bench during games and was 1 of the most demonstrative members, urging players, giving high-fives and shouting encouragement.
