PHOENIX, AZ - PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Thursday that one its officers made a traffic stop and recovered nearly 1,400 pounds of marijuana worth more than $750,000.
Wednesday's bust occurred on Interstate 17 near Anthem north of Phoenix after a tractor-trailer was pulled over for a traffic violation.
The officer obtained written consent to search the commercial vehicle which revealed 1,384 pounds of marijuana in the trailer.
The driver, 46-year-old John B. Fanning of Columbia, S.C., was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of possession and transportation of drugs for sale as well as illegal control of an enterprise.
DPS said the drugs and commercial vehicle were seized.
