COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Customers of South Carolina's largest private utility have an extra $300 incentive to change their water heaters and heat pumps to natural gas.
South Carolina Electric and Gas said in a news release Thursday that it's offering a $300 bill credit for switching from electric. Those customers also may qualify for up to $500 in rebates from the state Energy Office and up to $1,500 in federal tax credits.
SCE&G offers a $50 bill credit for customers switching to a gas cooktop from electric and for gas fireplace logs. The state and federal programs also apply to purchases of Energy Star-certified appliances.
The state rebate program starts Wednesday and ends when its $4 million funding runs out. Federal tax credits are available all year. SCE&G says its program has no expiration date.
