EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Bond has been denied for Nancy Fontaine, the Charleston woman charged with murdering her husband outside his Edisto Island home early Sunday.
According to state law, a magistrate judge cannot grant bond in murder charges; Fontaine will have to appear before a circuit court at a later date.
According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Nancy Fontaine stabbed her husband, Robert Fontaine with a kitchen knife following an altercation at his Edisto Island home at 12:22 a.m., Sunday.
A brother of Robert, who did not want to release his name, says he was with the couple when they met Saturday afternoon for drinks at Dockside Restaurant. According to the brother, Nancy and Robert had a strong history of disputes during their four and a half years of marriage, and he was not surprised when a verbal argument lead to the couple getting removed from the restaurant.
The brother says another family member drove the couple to Roberts house (Nancy lives in Charleston for work related purposes) where Nancy unleashed her deadly attack.
Officials say Mr. Fontaine was transported to MUSC where he died of wounds from the stabbing.
