WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Ed Conroy is in line to be the next head basketball coach at UNCW.

Sources have confirmed that The Citadel head coach has been offered the job which opened when Benny Moss was let go with nine games remaining in the regular season.

Rumors of Wilmington's interest in Conroy started a couple weeks ago when he was pegged as one person on a short list of coaching candidates.

UNCW Athletic Director Kelly Mehrtens is scheduled to leave for the Final Four in Indianapolis on Friday, which leaves little time for an official announcement and press conference this week.

Conroy just completed his fourth season in Charleston and declined to comment on the offer.  He has yet to meet with his players about the situation.

The Citadel alumnus guided the Bulldogs to a 20-13 season which included the programs second 20-win season.  Over the last two seasons the Bulldogs' 36 wins are the most in the two-year period to date.

The Seahawks finished last season with a 9-22 record, 5-13 in the CAA.

UNC Wilmington also has reportedly interviewed Vince Taylor, an assistant coach at Minnesota and a former Duke player. Former South Carolina coach Dave Odom.

If Conroy did accept the position, he would see a significant pay increase as well. UNC Wilmington reportedly will pay its new coach between $225,000 and $250,000 per year. Conroy currently earns a base salary of $175,000.
