FLORENCE, SC (WIS) - State Rep. Dr. Kristopher Crawford has been hit with several tax charges, the state Department of Revenue says.
Crawford has been charged with four counts of failure to file when due his individual income tax returns for 2004 to 2007 and three counts of failure to file corporate income tax returns for his company, Crawford Medical, LLC, for 2005 to 2007.
The Florence doctor is accused of failing to voluntarily file state corporate income tax returns when due and failing to provide his accountant with the necessary records to have the tax returns prepared.
Crawford told multiple media outlets his former accountant failed to file paperwork on time.
In the General Assembly, Crawford sits on the Rules and Labor, Commerce and Industry Committees. He represents the Florence area in the District 63 seat.
Crawford says he turned himself in on the misdemeanor charges. He was booked and released less than an hour later from the Florence County jail.
If convicted, Crawford could spend up to 7 years in prison and a $70,000 fine plus the money he owes in back taxes. He is up for re-election this year and faces no opponent in the June primary.
