COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State law enforcement officials have a letter sent to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford by an anti-government group that wrote governors around the country, demanding they step down.
State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd said Friday a letter was mailed to Sanford on Monday. He said the letter was turned over to the governor's protective detail.
Lloyd said the letter from the Guardians of the free Republics is no different than letters sent to at least 30 governors in calling for them to step down within three days or be removed.
The group's Web site says the group wants to "restore America" by peacefully dismantling parts of the government.
Lloyd said the SLED is making the note available to FBI.
