Robber jumps counter at James Island bank

JAMES ISLAND, SC  (WCSC) - Charleston police are investigating a lunch time robbery at the Bank of America branch at 540 Folly Road.

Reports of the robbery went out about 11:45 a.m., at the branch in the Publix shopping center near the James Island connector.

Charleston police describe the suspect as a short white man, wearing a gray sweatshirt and dark pants. Witnesses say he wore a black hat and Timberland style boots. They say he jumped over the counter and grabbed cash out of the teller's drawer.

The branch is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

Police are investigating a string of heists at banks in North Charleston and West Ashley over the last month. Investigators believe the same suspect is responsible for at least four bank robberies in March.
