CHARLESTON, SC - CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - BMW Manufacturing Company announces that the company has exported it's millionth vehicle built in South Carolina. The company reports 85% of those vehicles passed through the port of Charleston to over 120 global markets.
The plant opened outside Spartanburg in 1992. The company says it has invested $4 billion in South Carolina through 2009 and employs about 5,000. The factory supports 23,050 jobs statewide.
The plant produces BMW's hybrid X6 and is currently undergoing an expansion to build a new X3 model.
