New web feature captures 'Where You Live' -- with your help

CHARLESTON, SC - CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - In just a few short weeks, Live 5 News will be deploying a brand new web feature that will put us better in touch with many of the communities that we cover day-to-day -- we're going to be rolling out a series of 15 new websites that will focus only on the news and events in a community.

It's called "Where You Live" -- a new, hyperlocal approach to news-gathering a reporting that we've been working on for months -- and now we're almost ready to roll it out to the general public.

We're starting with some of the larger communities and regions in our coverage area:
Mt. Pleasant
Folly Beach
Daniel Island
Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms
James Island
North Charleston
Johns Island, Kiawah and Seabrook
West Ashley
Downtown Charleston
Goose Creek
Dorchester County
Berkeley County

Now don't worry; if your community isn't on this list or it's incorporated into another region, we'll be adding more communities over the next few months. We want to make sure we can handle the first 15 sites before we add another 15!

And before we can get everything completely deployed, we need some help from the people of the greater Charleston metro area. We want you to capture the iconic, emblematic places and scenes from each of the above communities in photographs.

Why? We're going to take the very best and use them for the header graphics on the new websites.

We want the very best quality images possible, so use a good camera. Fuzzy pictures from a flip phone just won't do. The pictures need to be big, clear, and most importantly, of a place or landscape that you think captures any one of the above communities.

You can submit as many photos of as many communities as you like. Lots of submissions can only increase your chances of winning one of our "Where You Live" prize packs.

Yes, there are prize packs.

If Live 5 News selects one of your photos for a "Where You Live" header, you will be awarded: four (4) Riverdogs ticket vouchers, one (1) South Carolina Park Passport, $75 in local restaurant vouchers, one (1) Lowcountry Funsaver coupon book and an assortment of Live 5 News merchandise.

Each prize pack is valued at approximately $200.

And that's in addition to your photo being the singular graphic we use to represent a community website.

There's an easy submission form at the top of the page and another on the home page of

The contest ends April 23 at 5 p.m., so make sure you get your submissions in before then! Good luck and we can't wait to see you capture ... Where You Live!
