STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Rick Stansbury says he interviewed at Clemson but will stay as basketball coach at Mississippi State.
In return, MSU has given Stansbury at 4-year extension, the maximum allowed by law.
The 50-year-old Stansbury has been in Starkville 20 years, the first eight as an assistant to Richard Williams. The native of Louisville, Ky., has led MSU to nine 20-plus-win seasons and has made six NCAA tournament appearances.
Clemson first contacted MSU Athletics Director Greg Byrne on Thursday, and Stansbury interviewed with Clemson on Saturday.
Byrne said MSU wants to get Stansbury's contract back to the 4-year maximum as allowed by state law, but he did not say a raise would be included.
