COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina has brought in 1 of the country's top 10 women's basketball players for the second straight season as forward Kayla Brewer signed with the Gamecocks.
Brewer is a 6-foot-2 junior from Jacksonville, Fla., who is graduating high school a year early. She is rated the eighth best prospect by ESPNU.
South Carolina lured the country's No. 2 prospect in Kelsey Bone last spring. But after being named the Southeastern Conference's newcomer of the year, Bone decided to transfer.
Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley says Brewer's work ethic and skill in the frontcourt will help her team.
South Carolina went 14-15 last season and 7-9 in the SEC.
