Fatal DUI wreck gets SC woman 18 years in prison

CHARLESTON, SC - CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting she was driving drunk when she ran over a motorcyclist whose bike had fallen over at a stoplight.

22-year-old Mallory Hood pleaded guilty on Monday to felony driving under the influence. She faced one to 25 years in prison.

Authorities say 24-year-old Justin Elliott was killed in May 2008 while riding on U.S. 17 in Mount Pleasant.

Investigators say Elliott was with three other bikers at a stoplight. When the light turned green, Elliott fell and was run over by a Ford Explorer driver by Hood.

Police say Hood's blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent three hours after the wreck - more than three times the legal limit in South Carolina.
