Full 911 service has been restored in Newberry County

NEWBERRY, SC -

NEWBERRY (WIS) - All 911 operations and emergency telephone lines are working again in Newberry County.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office returned to operations at the primary 911 center late Monday night.  Full service has been restored and the E911 center is fully functioning.

All administrative telephone services have also been restored to the Sheriff's Office.  All administrative and non-emergency lines are functioning correctly.

Service to the 911 center and administrative telephone lines was interrupted yesterday when a contractor for AT&T working on Wilson Road cut the main lines feeding into the Sheriff's Office.

"Our 911 staff and administrative staff did an absolutely wonderful job," said Sheriff Lee Foster.  "911 is the life line of the entire county, and we worked extremely hard to ensure that there was as little interruption of service as possible."

Foster said that the interruption of service was unexpected, but that everyone responded so quickly that the 911 service was only interrupted for a matter of minutes before calls were being routed and answered at the backup center.

While the administrative lines remained down until late into the night on Monday, there was no delay or stoppage in emergency services.

"The administrative telephone lines is a situation out of our control at this point," said Foster.  "However, we are working on a project under a federal grant that we will give us redundancy in both the emergency and non-emergency telephone systems."
