SC woman sentenced to 5 years for scalding boy

DILLON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to scalding her 5-year-old stepson.

WBTW-TV in Florence reported that 24-year-old Dartisha Henson of Latta had been charged with cruelty to children for the 2008 scalding of the boy in a bathtub. Henson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery and inflicting great injury.

Circuit Judge Paul Burch also ordered Henson to register on a national child abuse registry.

The boy's father said when he came home he heard his son crying and noticed the burns and took him to a hospital in Marion. The boy was transferred to the burn center in Augusta, Ga.

The boy's mother, Patricia Wiggins, says her son is recovering, but still requires monthly treatments at a Charleston hospital.
