HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A swarm of honeybees forced a medical clinic on the South Carolina coast to close its doors temporarily.
The Island Packet reports the Hilton Head Island Volunteers in Medicine clinic closed Tuesday after bees were found in the X-ray room.
A beekeeper was brought in to remove the bees that had swarmed above a suspended ceiling. They were apparently looking for a new home and are thought to have entered through tiny holes in the corrugated metal roof.
Most of the bees were dead.
The nonprofit clinic reopened Wednesday. It uses retired doctors to serve more than 12,000 uninsured patients.
