Winthrop gets $2M for scholarships from SC donor

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Winthrop University has received an estimated $2 million donation from someone who says her time at the South Carolina school changed her and opened doors in her life.

The school told The Herald of Rock Hill that the donor from western South Carolina who wanted to remain anonymous plans to give Winthrop 75 percent of her estate when she dies.

The gift will be used to pay for scholarships.

The university says the woman has given money to Winthrop before.

Winthrop says it is the third gift of a million dollars or more given to the school this semester.
