SC's Bernanke, Robinson to speak at SC ceremonies

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A congresswoman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and the chairman of the Federal Reserve are scheduled to address students graduating from two South Carolina colleges this spring.

The State of Columbia reports Tuesday that Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke will address University of South Carolina undergraduates May 8. Bernanke grew up in Dillon. He is in his second term as Fed chairman.

The same day, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., is scheduled to be commencement speaker for more than 170 graduates from Benedict College in Columbia.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson is speaking to graduate students at USC on May 7. The Orangeburg native won the top journalism honor in 2009.
