SC man charged with killing homeless woman

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A 38-year-old South Carolina man has been charged with killing a homeless woman who was found dead in an abandoned home.

Multiple media outlets report Joseph Creech of Enoree was charged Monday with murder in the death of 54-year-old Beverly Kimbrell. Creech remained in jail Tuesday morning. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

A police report says Kimbrell's mostly nude body was found Sunday in a condemned Spartanburg County home. A neighbor found her and called 911 after going to check on a homeless man who had been living there.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Cleveger says it appears she was strangled and hit in the head. He's awaiting toxicology results.

Cleveger says investigators think Kimbrell died April 21, a day after she was last seen.
