MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - A 27-year-old South Carolina man has been sentenced to 85 years for killing an acquaintance in 2007.
The Post and Courier reported Thursday that Michael Maxwell of Berkeley County changed his plea to guilty in the second day of his trial. He was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years for burglary and 60 years for murder in the death of 20-year-old Christopher Teseniar.
Berkeley County sheriff's deputies say Maxwell kicked in the front door of Teseniar's home early Nov. 11, 2007, and shot him as others slept in the Moncks Corner home. According to prosecutors, inmates told deputies that Maxwell bragged about the murder.
Investigators said the two knew each other but weren't friends. Witnesses said Maxwell thought Teseniar had taken some of his property.
