BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - Volunteers are out on the South Carolina coast cleaning trash before it can get into a pristine river and endangers wildlife.
The Old Town Cleanup is held Saturday in Bluffton at the state's southern tip. The idea is to keep trash from getting into the May River.
Organizers of the clean up say there are no storm water lagoons in the old section of Bluffton and trash can work its way into storm drains leading into the river.
Fishing line and plastic six-pack holders can be dangerous to birds like gulls who get entangled and can't free themselves.
