COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The retired general chosen by South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford to run the state's jobless benefits agency is on the job.
Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. John L. Finan stood with Sanford outside the renamed Department of Employment and Workforce on Monday showing off the agency's new sign in Columbia before heading inside for a tour.
Finan's first day on the job was Friday.
Sanford said after the tour that he is counting on Finan to turn the agency around and get its finances in order. He said Finan's background overseeing the Air Force's budget should help him do that.
The Legislature last month gave Sanford control of the Workforce Department by making it part of his Cabinet.
