Anderson man arrested in internet predator sting

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A 40-year-old Anderson man was arrested Thursday during an internet predator sting conducted by Anderson Police.

Charles Douglas Bennett Jr., 40, was arrested on two counts of criminal solicitation of a minor. If convicted, Bennett faces up to 10 years in prison on each count.

Anderson Police were notified after an investigation conducted by the Buncombe County Sheriff's, NC Office led to Bennett. Bennett is accused of soliciting sex from an 11-year-old persona in an internet sting there.

South Carolina arrest warrants allege that beginning Jan. 19 Bennett solicited sex on the internet from an individual he believed to be minor girl. In reality, he was soliciting sex from an undercover Anderson Police officer.

This is the one hundred eighty-ninth (189th) arrest for the Task Force.

The City of Anderson Police Department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office is a member of the North Carolina ICAC Task Force.
