COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman mistakenly released from prison is back in custody.
Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday that 45-year-old Rachel Easterly of Surfside Beach was mistakenly released from a Columbia prison last week.
The veterinarian had pleaded guilty in 2008 to leaving the scene of an accident involving death and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Sixteen-year-old Tommy Sullivan Jr., of Garden City was killed in 2007 as he walked along a highway in his hometown.
Investigators say Easterly had tried to cover up the crime.
Corrections Department spokesman Josh Gelinas says Easterly was mistakenly released because her charge had been entered in the records as just hit and run. Easterly is to be released in October, 2011.
