Bikers in SC again avoiding Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Bikers are again avoiding Myrtle Beach as the annual spring bike rallies get under way on the South Carolina coast.

The Sun News reports bikers gathered beyond the city limits as the Cruisin' the Coast rally began over the weekend.

Two years ago, the city passed laws to curb the rallies. Those rules included outlawing parking lot gatherings, loud mufflers and riding without helmets.

Butch Thomas says he now won't ride in the city limits and refuses to spend money in Myrtle Beach.

Another biker, Sherry Lesley, says attempts to attract visitors with other events during the rallies won't work and she has no intention of attending.

Last year many of the more than 300,000 bikers attending the spring bike rallies avoided the city.
