North Charleston man faces gun, drug charges in federal court

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston man was charged Wednesday in federal court on drug and gun violations.

U.S. Attorney William Nettles said in a release that Willie Mitchell, 34, was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a weapon during the commission of a drug trafficking crime.

Authorities executing a search warrant on Mitchell's residence in North Charleston in December recovered approximately six grams of crack cocaine and a loaded .40-caliber handgun that authorities allege belonged to Mitchell.

The maximum penalty Mitchell could receive is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for life.
