Knife found in inmate's bag during random search

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - An inmate at a federal facility in Estill, SC, was indicted Wednesday for possessing a weapon inside the facility.

Prison officials allegedly found a knife in the gym bag of Juan Verdusco-Macias, 32, during a random search.

The maximum penalty Verdusco-Macias could receive is a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for five years, to be served consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving, a 216-month sentence for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The case was investigated by agents of the FBI and officials from the Bureau of Prisons.
