LADSON, SC (WCSC) - A teenager who attended middle school in Berkeley County has been arrested in Melbourne, Fla., with a backpack full of bomb making ingredients, a knife and notebooks describing how to make different types of bombs.

Melbourne police officials said they also found a trench coat and combat boots in Cameron Lee Kage's back pack.

A Berkeley County Schools spokesperson confirms Kage attended Sangaree Middle School in Ladson from 2006 until 2009, completing sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Berkeley County forwarded Kage's transcripts to Florida after he completed the eighth grade.

Kage performed with the Cane Bay High School marching band in 2008 and 2009. "He was a great student with me. I never saw anything out of the ordinary," said Band Director Drew Dickey.

Police say Kage was charged with possession of bomb-making materials at a school and attempting to make a destructive device. Kage was taken into custody by Melbourne police and is now in home confinement.
