Ex-employee arrested in missing SC cash probe

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a former South Carolina county treasurer's office employee embezzled more than $200,000 from the county.

The Beaufort County sheriff's office says 29-year-old Casaundra White was arrested at her Yemassee home on Wednesday and charged with six counts of embezzlement and five counts of conspiracy.

Investigators say White stole the money between February 2008 and last November. Deputies say White opened bank accounts in the names of fake businesses, filed paperwork for reimbursement of tax overpayment and deposited the checks in the accounts.

Investigators say White's boyfriend, Adrian Coore, is wanted on five counts of conspiracy.

It was not clear if White had an attorney. She was at the Beaufort County jail pending a bond hearing on Thursday.
