SC gov's ex-wife offers campaign help to Haley

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's ex-wife is campaigning this week for a gubernatorial candidate who has distanced herself from Sanford since he revealed his extramarital affair.

Jenny Sanford also will be on the "Dr. Phil" show Thursday. The next day she will be campaigning for state Rep. Nikki Haley, a Republican from Lexington.

On Wednesday, the governor confirmed he was in Florida with Maria Belen Chapur last weekend. While he didn't name the Argentine woman that he had a yearlong affair with, Sanford made it clear he was trying to see if it was possible to restart a relationship with her.

Without the affair that wrecked his marriage and political future, the Republican governor would likely have been campaigning for Haley. But Haley has distanced herself from him since he confessed the affair.
