CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina college is throwing a 90th birthday party for a former General Motors exec who has played an important role in building the school.
The Post and Courier reports the College of Charleston hosts the party for George Spaulding on Friday.
The retired GM executive has had a three-decade relationship with the college where he serves on the business school's board of governors and has recruited business leaders for the speakers series bearing his name.
Spaulding also lectures students. His favorite is an address he called "Make Your Own Coffee." In it, he suggests that students waste hundreds of dollars a year buying designer coffee.
