SYLVA, N.C. (AP) - A plant in western North Carolina that made corrugated cardboard has closed, saying a company that promised to buy a large quantity backed out of its commitment.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that more than 40 people lost their jobs when Stonewall Packaging LLC in Sylva closed Thursday. Stonewall said in statement that another company didn't carry through on its commitment to buy a large order.
Unemployment in Jackson County was more than 10 percent in March.
