Soldier killed in crash near Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The second victim in a fatal, head-on crash south of Fairbanks last week has been identified as a 21-year-old Fort Wainwright soldier.

Alaska State Troopers say Pfc. Timothy N. Clayton II of Lexington, S.C., was killed in the crash along with 18-year-old Alecia Phillips of Wasilla.

Troopers say Clayton was a passenger in the car that collided with a semi on the Parks Highway late Friday.

Clayton joined the Army in August 2008 and was assigned to Fort Wainwright in February 2009.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
