SC teen pleads guilty in girl's rape, death

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina teenager has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping and killing an 8-year-old neighbor.

Multiple media outlets report that 16-year-old Sam Young of Piedmont was sentenced after pleading guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter and criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Young had been charged as an adult with murder, kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the June 2008 death of Dymia Janae Woody.

A sheriff's deputy found Dymia in a closet of an abandoned mobile home, hours after her parents reported her missing. She had been sexually assaulted and asphyxiated.

Authorities have said Young admitted having sex but claimed it was consensual. He told them he put Dymia in the closet because he didn't know what to do.
